am i going to be Sticky?
Spray tan solutions come in two different based formulas : Aloe vera vs alcohol.
Standard Tanning Sessions use original formulas which have an Aloe vera base and an 8 hour processing time, while the Rapid Tanning Sessions use an alcohol based formula with a 2-5 hour processing time. Aloe Vera provides various benefits for a long lasting tan, which retains hydration and proper moister of the skin. This majorly beneficial ingredient causes a slight “tacky” feeling that can be found unpleasant. However, each session is offered finishing powder at no additional charge.
For complete avoidance of any sticky residue concerns, schedule a Rapid GLŌ Tanning Session.
how necessary is exfoliation before my session?
Exfoliating before tanning provides a smooth and clean canvas for the tanning product, ensuring that it goes on evenly and adheres to your skin properly.
Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin, which stimulates the cells to promote beneficial collagen production. The fresher your skin looks and feels, the better your spray tan will look and last. Exfoliation before spray tanning should occur (24 hours minimum or 12 hours maximum) before your appointment and will allow the skin to absorb the spray tan solution more evenly and deeply. This results in a smoother, brighter & longer lasting GLŌ!
how necessary is hydration before my session?
Hydrated skin is important for a spray tan because the solution adheres better to hydrated skin cells. Dry skin can lead to an uneven tan that peels, and it can also decrease the longevity of results. Hydration of the skin begins from within with proper hydration habits and finishes with maintaining the external moisture of the skin. Make sure to drink plenty of water and properly moisturize your skin with lotions or oils regularly. However, do not use any external lotion or oil products the day of your spray tan appointment. Have all products carefully rinsed off with warm water the night before appointment and remember to exfoliate while you’re in the prep-process!
how long will my spray tan last?
Spray tan preparation, spray tan maintenance and the solution formula are all factors that determine a spray tan’s longevity. If a client is taking the proper preparation steps and following a strict maintenance regimen, a spray tan can last up to 12 days using Standard Tanning Session formula. Rapid Tanning Session formula provides a tan lasting up to 7 days if following proper care before & after appointment. The difference between these solutions are the bases of each formula; alcohol-based solutions will result in fewer days because of the drying ingredients while an Aloe vera based solution will increase a spray tan’s duration.
At home prep is an absolute must to assure the best outcome and result for any spray tanning session. Please make sure to follow the guidelines and schedule your appointment accordingly.
can i extend the longevity of my tan?
Clients must remember to constantly hydrate the skin and body by drinking plenty of water and applying a daily moisturizer, at least 1-2 times per day. Ideally, using a Tan Extend Lotion or a recommended spa-grade moisturizer is best. For those clients who wish to find an over the counter moisturizer, use an oil-free, water-based product which contains minimal fragrance. Clients should avoid using products containing coconut oil.
Daily soaps and washes will also affect the longevity of a spray tan. It is best to use water-based oil-free products. Soaps and washes with harsh ingredients and a large number of sulfates will slowly strip the tan diminishing its lifespan.
Other helpful maintenance tips:
Activities that may cause excessive sweating (gym, yoga, and other exercises) can cause friction which will remove a tan. Wear loose fitting clothing to minimize friction.
Chlorine and Salt-Water are abrasive and exfoliate the skin, it’s best to minimize exposure to these chemicals. Those clients on vacations who are exposed should be forewarned that their spray tans may not last the duration of the promised time.
Forms of exfoliation such as scrubs, chemical peels and shaving will remove a tan. Minimize use of these products as much as possible.
